Selling An Aston Martin Volante

Aston Martin Volante

Aston Martin would use the name “Volante” (from an Italian world, meaning flying) to name the Convertible versions of various models from 1965 to present. Created in 1965, the first Volante was based on the remaining short chassis of the Aston Martin DB5, while featuring design cues from the DB6, such as the split bumpers, rear church/TR4 lights, the oil cooler and leather stitching. Only 37 examples of this particular example were made between October 1965 and October 1966 and are commonly referred to as Aston Martin Volante. Post October 1966, Aston Martin started building a new version of the Volante, based on the longer chassis of the DB6. The new car was known as the Aston Martin DB6 Volante, or Convertible. Only 140 examples of this later model were built, 29 of which featured the Vantage engine option, making them extra valuable to the eyes of many of today’s collectors.

Aston Martin Volante Seller’s Guide

A newer version of the Aston Martin DB6 came out in July 1969, which was called the Mk II. 38 examples of the Aston Martin DB6 Mk II Volante (or Convertible) were made, before the production stopped in 1971. The V8 will be the next Volante in the Aston Martin line, in which production ran from 1978 to 1989. From 1978 to 1990, a Vantage version of the V8 Volante was offered, with a more powerful engine. Later came the V8 Virage Volante, which production started in 1992 and ended in 1996, followed by the DB7 Volante, from 1996 to 2004. Currently, Aston Martin offers the DB9 Volante (since 2004) and a modern version of the DBS Volante (since 2009). With a long history and continued excellence, it is easy to understand why the Aston Martin Volante models are considered highly collectible today.
