1955 Austin-Healey 100S

Primarily built with racing in mind, the Austin-Healey 100S was the brainchild of Donald Healey, who wanted to boost interest and sales in the Austin-Healey 100 series of production sports touring cars. Often compared to the Aston-Martin Bertone Spider and Alfa Romeo 1900 Zagato of the era, the 100S would debut at the 1955 Sebring 12 Hours with an all aluminum body and various advancements that would give drivers more than 132hp. Only 50 examples of the 1955 Austin-Healey 100S would be manufactured at the Donald Healey Motor Company factory in Warwick, all of which were built by hand. These exceptional Austin-Healey 100S models would feature an aluminum cylinder head rather than cast iron, a smaller front grille and a plastic windscreen. There were no bumpers or convertible top to save weight, which reduced the car by approximately 200lbs. Upgraded suspension, twin fuel pumps, a strengthened chassis and additional options such as a 20-gallon fuel tank and Le Mans headlamps further added interest and intrigue to the car. If you’re the proud owner of a 1955 Austin-Healey 100S and are thinking about taking the plunge and selling, the Alex Manos team would love to speak with you.

1955 Austin-Healey 100S Seller’s Guide

It is estimated that approximately 41 of the 55 original Austin-Healey 100S models remain in existence today, including approximately five prototypes. If you’re thinking about selling your 1955 Austin-Healey 100S, you can count on interest, yet buyers will certainly want to ensure that your model is authentic and original. To do this, you can obtain a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate from Austin-Healey or you can provide buyers with evidence such as engine and chassis numbers or ownership and racing history documentation, if available. Similarly, buyers will want to fully understand the overall condition of your classic 100S, as parts and restoration can be quite expensive for these limited-edition models. If a serious buyer would like a third-party inspection, you should always try to make accommodations for such an inspection to happen. These are just a few of the Seller’s Tips that the Alex Manos team has learned over their years of experience in the classic car market – buying and selling American and European classics.
