Selling a 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL

1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL

The 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL and its other year models were designed and built for racing, with its smooth, flattened flanks, lack of trim and plain front end – thus becoming one of the most desirable autos ever built. Consistently proven on the racetrack, the 300SL engine was extremely reliable and one of the most popular selling features besides the car’s good looks. Interestingly, the engine had to be slanted to the left in order to accommodate the extraordinary low hood line. Other changes that took place when the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing came to the market were a steel body-shell with aluminum hood, trunk lid, lower rocker panels, and doors to save weight. Chromed bumper were added to the car, and the slatted vents on the front fenders were there to allow excess heat from the engine, but also to add to the overall styling.

1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL Seller’s Tips

Produced as both a 300SL Coupe and a 300SL Roadster, the 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SL was also offered as a limited all-aluminum body. In fact, during the run of the Gullwing Coupe, 29 of these aluminum-bodied 300SL’s were built for special delivery. These models had plaid seats, plexiglass windows, Rudge wheels, and a “NSL” engine. As would be imagined, these 29 examples are some of the most desirable among the Gullwing series. If you’re looking to sell classic Mercedes Gullwing models including the 300SL Roadster or Coupe models, you’ve come to the right place. Alex Manos and his team of classic car professionals understand this market better than anyone. They can help you place a value on your specific model and always offer top dollar, in cash for your classic or vintage European and American autos. They are also capable of picking up the vehicle anywhere in the United States.
