Buying or Selling a 1938 Bentley 4 1/4 Litre?
Introduced during the spring of 1936 – specifically during the month of March – the successor to the famed Bentley 3.5 Litre was finally brought to the public’s eye. Known as the Bentley 4.25 Litre, the model was an attempt to compensate the heavyweight set of its features with a more powerful engine more aptly tuned for such an elegant automobile. Ultimately, the Bentley was based on a Rolls-Royce 20/25 engine, and further improved with twin carburetors. As was customary for the time, the model came as a rolling chassis that was intentioned to be sent to the customer’s coachbuilder of choice and from that point on fitted with a tailored body style. Reaching back to the performance, the upgraded engine certainly proved on the road, providing a top speed of 100 mph at nearly 4,000 rpm, and the special edition MR and MX series cars featured Marles steering and a full-steel body.
