Selling a 1966 BMW 2000 Sedan

1966 BMW 2000 Sedan

Following a string of successful New Class sedans, Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) in 1966 had built up enormous good will within the automotive community and amongst its consumer base. While the 1500 had set the stage for a remarkable decade to come, the 1800 series had quickly and decisively overcome that first generation model. It was now the 1800 model’s turn to experience the unenviable feeling of being overshadowed, as the BMW 2000 Sedan had that exact effect, and largely by design. BMW certainly had a sense of their being different (if overlapping) markets for the 1800 and its higher-end successor, but there was little doubt as to how the hierarchy took shape once the BMW 2000 Sedan made itself known to the public.

For this exceptionally notable New Class sedan, the now renowned M10 SOHC was modified into its M05 version. With a 1990 cc displacement, this M10 variant provided the BMW 2000 Sedan over 100 horsepower and contributed to an overarching sense of driving the racer’s circuit. Nothing was sacrificed at all in the way of comfort, handling, or drivability; it was, after all, a sedan—comfort and practicality reign supreme in that class. More so than was expected, BMW had outdone itself yet again with the crown jewel of its New Class sedans. Sellers have much to share with prospective buyers, whether emphasizing the 2000’s important place in BMW history or simply boasting of its seemingly modern blend of comfort with motor muscle.
