Built from 1948 to 1951, the Jaguar Mark V was launched at the 1948 London Motor Show alongside the Jaguar XK120. On average, the model sold 5,000 units per year and was well received by the motor press. The 1936 overhead-valve pushrod straight-six engines were retained for the Mark V, with 2.5 and 3.5-liter capacities. The power output was respectively 104 and 126 hp. The model used independent front suspension with double wishbone and a torsion bar—a combination used for many future Jaguar models. The body was all-pressed steel and a new chassis was introduced. The Mark V was equipped with hydraulic brakes and the body featured an upright chrome grille. The Jaguar radiator cap mascot was made available on option.
