The Porsche 356B line ran from 1959 to 1963 and offer quite distinct styling changes from the previous 356A models that had propelled Porsche into the international spotlight. The 1960 Porsche 356 falls into the Type-B designation and would be part of more than 30,963 Type-B models produced during this era. Available as a Coupe, Cabriolet or Roadster – with engine options including the 1600, 1600S, 1600 S 90, and 300GS – buyers during this time could customize their Porsche 356 to their liking. Compared with the 356A models released prior, the Type-B could be categorized as more aggressive. Changes included larger front and rear bumpers that were outfitted with larger bumper guards and that were lifted approximately 4-inches for added protection and clearance. More upright headlights also resulted in a fender change. The fenders of the 356B were straighter than the curvier 356A model. Interestingly, these changes were not very popular at first. Porsche purists thought the car had lost some of its luster and that these changes were kin to something General Motors would produce. Nevertheless, buyers would flock to the 356B and opinions would change.
