Three Porsche 911 variations would appear during the 1968 model-year: the 911L, the 911T and the 911S. The 1968 Porsche 911L was considered the standard model, while the high-performance version would be the 911S and the entry-level model would be the 911T. There are a few visual cues that can help you authenticate your particular model as a 1968 911L. For example, all models would receive black windscreen wipers rather than the original polished ones. Redesigned door handles would receive recessed buttons. Window frames would become polished aluminum rather than plated brass. Inside the 911T, the wood trim dash would be replaced by a brushed aluminum, while the wood-rimmed wheel would now be black. Under the hood, the 1968 Porsche 911L retained the 130 horsepower engine of the original 911, with the later Weber carburetors. Those models bound for the United States would also be fitted with air pumps to help comply with growing emissions regulations. Interestingly, early Porsche 911L Targa models were available with either two small rear seats or an additional lockable luggage compartment.
