1968 De Tomaso Mangusta

Succeeding to the Vallelunga model, the De Tomaso Mangusta is the second road-going sport car built by the Italian car manufacturer. The Mangusta used the chassis of its predecessor as a base and featured a mid-mounted engine. A Ford 289 V8 engine producing 306 hp was fitted on the first examples of De Tomaso Mangusta, while the US models were powered by a 221-hp Ford 302 V8 unit, linked to a 5-speed ZF transaxle. Giorgetto Giugiaro designed the body with gullwing doors over the engine and luggage compartment. The model was ahead of the competition at the time and well equipped with all-around disk brakes, four independent suspension, rack and pinion steering, power windows, and air conditioning. The De Tomaso Mangusta was a very fun and inexpensive sports car with a top speed recorded at 155 mph.
