Buying or Selling a De Tomaso Mangusta?
The Mangusta was the second road-going production model made by De Tomaso and the first to be built in significant numbers. The Mangusta was intended to replace the Shelby Cobra, which inspired the naming of the car—mangusta is the Italian for mongoose, the predator of the cobra snake. An American Ford V8 engine with a capacity of 4.7-liter powered the De Tomaso Mangusta and was linked to a 5-speed ZF transaxle. Giorgetto Giugiaro designed the gorgeous body, which was made using steel and aluminum. About 400 examples of De Tomaso Mangusta were made from 1966 to 1971, before the model was replaced by the De Tomaso Pantera. The North American models could only produce 221 hp compared to 306 hp for the European spec cars. The De Tomaso Mangusta was a modern sports car featuring equipment such as four wheel independent suspension system, rack and pinion steering, powered windows and air conditioning.
