The Ferrari 365 BB (or Berlinetta Boxer) is part of a series of models made by Ferrari in Italy between 1973 and 1984. Equipped with a mid-mounted flat-12 engine replacing the FR layout engine of the Daytona, the BB cars offer a very special driving experience. The first model in the series was the Ferrari 365 GT4 BB, followed by the Ferrari BB 512, then the BB512i and finally the BB LM ending the series when the Ferrari Testarossa took over. As for many of the top sports cars of the era, the Ferrari BB featured very sharp angles and an aggressive look designed by Leonardo Fioravanti. The BB was a major step in Ferrari’s engineering. Enzo Ferrari was reluctant on building mid-engined road cars, thinking it would be too difficult to handle for his clientele. However, when Ferrari lost its racing dominance in the late 1950s to competitors using mid-engine layouts, the company decided to make the change. The 4-, 6-, and 8-cylinder Dino racing cars were the first ones to use this layout, which was later adapted on the Dino road version.

Ferrari 365 BB Seller’s Guide

Mounted longitudinally rather than transversally, the flat-12 engine of the Ferrari 365 BB used timing belts instead of chains like its predecessor. The power was transmitted to the wheels trough a 5-speed manual gearbox, delivered a satisfying 380hp. The Ferrari 365 GT4 BB was introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1971 and released for sale at the Paris Motor Show two years later. Only 387 cars were made, 88 of which with right-hand drive. The 365 GT4 BB successfully competed with the Lamborghini Miura and recently developed Countach.
