Buying or Selling a 1960 Lotus Elite?
Introduced in 1957, the Lotus Elite Type 14 was produced from 1958 to 1963 in two different series. The series 1 model was in production up until July 1960, using Maximar-built bodies. Although few series 2 models were still built with the lighter Maximar body, the series 2 wore bodies now made by Bristol plastics and revised suspension. Simple and elegant, the body of the Lotus Elan featured smooth lines and a very low drag coefficient of 0.29. The Lotus Elite was an efficient and popular sports car thanks to its 1.2-liter, straight-four, 75-hp engine. Introduced in 1960, the Lotus Elite SE variant offered 10 additional hp, and was equipped with twin SU carburetors and an improved ZF gearbox.
