Selling a 1952 Mercedes Benz 300S Coupe
Presented to the public and the automotive press at the Paris Auto Show in October of 1951, the 1952 Mercedes Benz 300S Coupe was considered the epitome of German engineering and automotive design during the 1950s. Designated by Mercedes Benz as the W188, the 300S was offered as a 2+2 Coupe, a Cabriolet and a Roadster. A very limited production, Mercedes would release only 216 Coupes from the launch until it was retired in 1955. While mechanically similar to its contemporary Type 300, 300B and 300C models, the Mercedes 300S models would exhibit even more detailed craftsmanship and world-class materials. Under the hood, triple Solex carburetors combined with higher engine compression would give the car more than 150 horsepower and an increased top speed. When new, the 300S Coupe commanded a price tag of more than $12,500, making it the most expensive luxury car of its day.
