Selling a 1949 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn

1949 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn

In 1906, engineering pioneers Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce founded what is today known as Rolls Royce. Synonymous with precision, unprecedented class and unrivaled performance, there mere mention of the Rolls Royce brand conjures up images of some of the finest automobiles ever produced. Interestingly, the founders were arguably more concerned with engine output and mechanical reliability than with the comfort and prestige their brand would later become famous for. The engineering fundamentals created by both Charles Rolls and Henry Royce would manifest in every model released during their lifetimes —and certainly throughout the decades that would follow

The 1949 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn was a luxury car in the full-size category. A departure from the company’s standard production process, the 1949 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn featured a factory-built chassis. First planned for the export market, the car would feature two distinctive designs: 1) right-hand drive, which used a floor gear change; and 2) left-hand drive, which used a column gear change. Like many luxury vehicles of the era, several coachbuilders would provide bodies for the Silver Dawn. These included H.J. Mulliner and Park Ward, both of which would later be absorbed by Rolls Royce to produce in-house coachwork. Produced for roughly seven years, only a handful of the 1949 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn models potentially exist today.
