Selling a Silver Cloud Saloon

Silver Cloud Saloon

Nearly a half-century after Charles Rolls and Henry Royce founded their prestigious automotive company in 1906, the Rolls Royce Sliver Cloud Saloon would make its debut. With the formation of their partnership, the two had set out to achieve engineering excellence and commercial success. The Silver Cloud Saloon, which replaced the Silver Dawn, would be very much in keeping with the standards of quality, performance and luxury of the previous model. And, because of its body-on-frame construction, the Silver Cloud was configurable with a number of coachbuilders, though most unites would use the steel body shell provided by Pressed Steel Company —a joint British-American manufacturing company.

Although the Silver Cloud was quite heavy with a curb weight of nearly 5,000 pounds, it could reach top speeds of more than 100 miles per hour —an increase over its Silver Dawn predecessor. The main driver of this power was a 4.9 liter six-cylinder engine, which produced more than 150 horsepower. The power-to-weight ration was rather impressive for a luxury saloon of this era, although its 0-60mph speed was modest. In total, roughly 7,000 Silver Clouds were produced and sold between 1955 and 1966.
